Three Spanish policemen who were visiting Rome as tourists prevented a robbery at one of the city\u2019s most iconic churches \u2014 the Basilica of the Holy Cross of Jerusalem \u2014 on March 21.<\/p>\n
The policemen \u2014 one of whom is stationed at the Spanish Embassy to the Holy See \u2014 were off duty when they intervened in response to a priest\u2019s call for help.<\/p>\n
After hearing the priest\u2019s shouts, they managed to intercept the suspect, who \u2014 according to the clergyman \u2014 had just stolen several items.<\/p>\n
After questioning the suspect, the policemen recovered from the alleged thief two lockpicks (used to open locks), 480 euros (about $555), two watches, and five lottery tickets.<\/p>\n
The officers then proceeded to notify the Italian State Police of the incident, who took over the case.<\/p>\n
