The brother of Pope Leo XIV was reportedly the victim of a hoax bomb threat in a suburb outside of Chicago, according to police and media reports. <\/p>\n

The New Lenox, Illinois, Police Department said in a Facebook post on April 15<\/a> that it had responded to a \u201creported bomb threat at a private residence\u201d in the Chicago suburb about 40 miles outside of the city center. <\/p>\n

The statement did not identify the home as belonging to Leo\u02bcs brother John Prevost, but local media reports said the target of the threat was Prevost\u02bcs home. Public records indicate that Prevost lives on the street to which police responded. <\/p>\n

Police evacuated nearby homes during their investigation and called in explosive-detection K9 units. \u201cAfter careful examination, investigators determined that the threat was unsubstantiated and that no explosive devices or hazardous materials were present,\u201d New Lenox police said. <\/p>\n

The police noted that no injuries were reported but that the false bomb threat was \u201ca serious offense and may result in criminal charges.\u201d<\/p>\n

New Lenox Police Chief Micah Nuesse told EWTN News via email on April 16 that the matter was an \u201cactive and ongoing investigation\u201d and that the police department had \u201cno new updates to share\u201d about the crime or any suspects. <\/p>\n

The hoax threat came just several days after President Donald Trump praised Pope Leo XIV\u02bcs other brother, Louis, in a rambling Truth Social post in which he derided Pope Leo XIV as \u201cweak on crime\u201d and \u201cterrible for foreign policy\u201d after Leo repeatedly criticized the ongoing U.S.-led war in Iran. <\/p>\n

\u201cI like [Leo\u02bcs] brother Louis much better than I like him, because Louis is all MAGA. He gets it, and Leo doesn\u2019t!\u201d Trump said. Louis Prevost currently lives in Florida. <\/p>\n

On April 11 at a Vatican peace vigil<\/a>, the pope criticized the \u201cmadness of war\u201d and urged world leaders: \u201cStop! It\u02bcs time for peace!\u201d On March 29, meanwhile, he said<\/a> that God \u201cdoes not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.\u201d<\/p>\n

In Trump\u02bcs Truth Social post<\/a>, he suggested that Leo \u2014 the first American-born pontiff \u2014 was only elected to the papacy as part of a diplomatic strategy to \u201cdeal with\u201d Trump himself, due to Leo\u02bcs U.S. background. <\/p>\n

\u201cIf I wasn\u2019t in the White House, Leo wouldn\u2019t be in the Vatican,\u201d Trump claimed in the post. <\/p>\n

Responding to a question about Trump\u02bcs post on April 13, Leo told media<\/a> that \u201cpeople who read it will be able to draw their own conclusions.\u201d <\/p>\n
