The story of the creation of Adam and Eve is not an exact report. However, it does tell us a great deal about the relationship that human beings have with God and each other. God’s creation is well-thought-out: we were created in accordance with a plan. He has, as it were, left his fingerprints in us, and because of that we are similar to him (Gen. 1:26).
Therefore, we have a unique place in creation, which is associated with the commission to take care of all of creation. God created us because he loves us. Because we are made in his image and after his likeness, each of us has a hidden desire for God at the core of our being. This enables us to love God and our fellow human beings.
