Jesus himself instituted the Church. It is the community of people who want to follow Jesus in order to become holy and to live with him forever in heaven. The Apostle Paul called the Church the “Body of Christ”: Jesus is its head and all the other members have their own place within this body. Just like we need all our body parts, so all members of the Church are important to the entire Church.
The faithful can be divided into three large “groups”, each with its specific vocation within the Church:
a) Lay faithful
b) Consecrated religious
c) Deacons, priests and bishops
